In April 2006 Utah journeyed to Bloomington Illinois, an old stomping ground he had not been to in a number of years, and performed at the McLean County Museum of History.

Greg Koos - Executive Director of the Museum, Utah, Mike Matejka - Laborers'
International Union of North America,
Tina Sipula, founder and director of Clare
House, a Catholic Worker organization facility.

Utah and the old courthouse, now the McLean
County Museum of History.

Before the performance, Greg shows Utah around the Museum, and this exhibit
on the Depression Era and McLean County.

The part of the exhibit was about hobo's and their secret marks and meanings.
Visitors were invited to draw their own.
Utah drew his moniker symbol "bowtie" at the bottom of the second
from the right pad.

And now, the performance in the old courtroom. What would be the jury's verdict?

"I'm glad to be back after 10 years....."

And as usual at a Utah show, he had everyone in stitches and singing and happy!
The audience was wonderful
and everyone had a good time.

After the show, Utah converses with the attendees.

Phillips: rugged life story in new CD
Also from Mike Matejka's historical files:

Here's a 1991 photo of Utah performing at the Carpenters Hall, Bloomington,
Illinois. This was a Bloomington & Normal Trades & Labor Assembly
(AFL-CIO) fund-raiser, to gather dollars to plant commemorative trees in Bloomington's
White Oak Park, in recognition of local victims of asbestosis. Bloomington
was once home to a United Rubber & Asbestos Company plant, to which over
100 deaths are attributed. 100 trees were planted in the park, are thriving
today, and the local Workers Memorial Day observance is held their annually.

Here's a 1978 mimeo poster announcing a Utah concert, sponsored by New Friends
of Old Time Music, at Illinois State University, in Normal. New Friends was
a program began in the early 1970s that brought a variety of performers to
campus. This performance was in conjunction with a Labor History week on the
campus, September 1978.
